Classic Africa Safaris - general notes

Zambezi Safari and Travel
canoe safaris lower zambezi river

The following general notes apply to all of the Classic Africa Safaris trips and the Classic Zambezi combination safaris.  These notes should be read in conjunction with our Standard Booking Conditions.

Inclusions and Exclusions

What's included

All safaris include all meals, accommodation, drinks, equipment and activities, Medical Air Rescue (MARS) cover, and 2% government levy.

  • Notes on drinks: a selection of cold drinks, bottled water and beer together with teas and coffee are available at any time, with red and white wines being served at dinner. A full bar is available in the evenings.
  • Notes on water: All water used in the kitchen and the drinking water in your tent has been filtered and treated, and is perfectly safe to drink. Bottled water is also available.
  • Notes on MARS cover: all guests are covered by Medical Air Rescue Service (MARS) for emergency evacuation, with comprehensive medical aid kits available in camp and carried whilst on activities. Direct radio communications with MARS is available at all times.

What's specifically excluded

Transfers: Air charter flights can be arranged from Kariba or Harare as required. Clients should be ready for pickup from their respective Kariba hotels 45 minutes prior to their air charter departure time. (We strongly recommend the air charter instead of the drive into Mana Pools.)

National Park Fees: The Entry Fee and River Usage Fee are currently set at US$15 per person (irrespective of the number of days spent in the National Park). Please be advised that National Parks have revised their fee structures over the last few years without warning or prior notice and we have little means of predicting increases for the current season - these fees are charged directly to you on arrival in Mana Pools and must be paid in cash.

Other notes

Safety

Safety is an important part of any safari and Classic Africa Safaris makes every reasonable effort to ensure the safety of its guests.  Please note that any safari is potentially hazardous and it is essential that all lawful directions and advice of the safari operator and/or guides be followed. Classic Africa Safaris will accept no responsibility for any illness, accident or loss whatsoever incurred in the course of the safari or for any expense from such illness, accident or loss. [Please take note of the Liability Clause in our Standard Booking Conditions]

First Aid: There is a comprehensive First Aid kit available in camp at all times. We are also in direct communication with our office in Harare in case of emergency and the local Medical Air Rescue Service covers all guests for emergency evacuations.

Radio Communications: Direct HF radio communications are available from Mana Pools to our Harare office. VHF communications with Medical Air Rescue (MARS) and United Air Services (UAS) are available in camp and whilst walking and canoeing.

Guides: With a maximum of 10 guests in camp at any one time, guests are assured of the full attention of the Professional Guide who is both host and guide on each safari. There is also a licensed River Guide in camp who assists in the guiding duties and to ensure that each guests stay is a memorable one. Zimbabwe has very stringent requirements with regard to the licensing of Professional and River Guides and guests can rely on their judgement at all times. All our guides have many years experience and know the Mana Pools area, and the Zambezi River extremely well. All guides are armed when undertaking any activity with guests and are trained to be constantly alert to danger both in camp and within the National Park in general.

Already mentioned above are aspects relating to first aid, radio communications and the existence of weapons for guest protection. Whistles are provided in each tent so as to be able to alert the guide should guests feel threatened during the night. Being a bush camp we do not have an electric fence surrounding the camp. As a consequence guests are advised that they should ask for an escort to and from their tents in the evenings.

The minimum age is 12 years. No previous canoeing experience is necessary, and a moderate level of fitness is required for canoeing and walking activities.

Seasons
Low Season: May, June, and October
